Girl Power

Ten years ago we had the spice girls thrusting peace signs all over the place and doing high kicks, now we have the age of kick ass women super heroes and spies. Angelina Jolie's new film Salt just hit theaters and she's not the only one throwing some punches and handling some crazy weapons. In December Tron Legacy is due to come out with Olivia Wilde, who is in a league of her own when it comes to being a kick ass woman, I mean her character on House is bi-sexual so Olivia is all about choosing strong smart women who just don't care. The movie is a sequel to the original Tron, which came out about 30 years ago, and although the main character in the sequel is a dude, I think Olivia is going to definitely draw some attention, she was just at comic con promoting the film.

Another film that has been promoted at comic con is Sucker Punch, which really does star a woman, or rather women. Unfortunately we have to wait about a year for this film to be released but from the trailer it looks super intense and a little dark. It has been described as Alice and Wonderland with machine guns, enough said I was sold with the mention of Alice and Wonderland.

Comic con also showed some footage of Natalie Portman's film Thor, which is based off a comic and although I haven't seen a trailer anything with Natalie Portman can only be amazing, I mean she was freakin Padme from Star Wars!

Now if only they would start working on a Wonder Woman movie...

More Stop Motion...Who's Excited

So for those of you who have been following my blog you know that I am a real admirer of stop motion videos, and the one I am going to talk to you about today is for a Levi's jean ad (another thing I admirer- good advertising).

The video is of this guy walking across America in Levi's jean. Although the stop motion isn't the best, it doesn't follow his every step because I mean if it did the video would be days long, but it has a nice concept to it. The best parts are when you see things you recognize like the Brooklyn Bridge, which is where he starts (gotta love NY) and the Lincoln Memorial in D.C. The guy, whose name is Mike finally finishes his journey in San Fran, again a great location to finish off much better than ending in L.A.

What also makes this video great is the fact that the background music is Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, can't go wrong there, especially if it's their song 'Home', which seems extremely fitting for this video.

Enjoy!

I've Got Ideas

Just because I am ordinary doesn't mean I can't do things. What, you think the rags to riches story only happens in fairy tales, well just look at J.K Rowling, she went from being an ordinary person to a gazillion heir because she stuck with the ideas she created. So why can't that happen to me? I will tell you why, it's because I don't have support behind me. I love my family and my parents but for some reason whenever I suggest an idea all they have to say to me is, "wow, that's a great idea, keep coming up with ideas." Okay...thanks?! That's all you have to say? How about "wow that's amazing, now stick with it and make it happen." Some encouragement would be nice. People like J.K Rowling stuck with their ideas and now look at them, you can't give up. So, I am going to make sure that my ideas are taken to the next level because you know what, they are good. So, here I go beginning my very own comic book. I feel like by writing it down it will make me stick with it and actually see it through. I may not be the next J.K Rowling but I will never know unless I try. Oh, and if you are an up and coming artist who can draw cartoons message me! Because we can work on this thing together and who knows what will happen, but I will leave you with this, I have ideas.

Fun at Work...is that an oxymoron?

No it isn't, well at least not for me, because yesterday at work N.E.R.D came to the office and gave a little performance and they were unreal. Now I am not a huge fan of rap, and have never really listened to N.E.R.D. I know who Pharell is but after seeing their performance yesterday I am totally obsessed. I almost think their live show was better than the recordings. They just have so much energy and even though I am not much of a dancer I found myself actually dancing, yes not just doing a little toe tap but actually moving my hips. So in the spirit of my new found discovery, although I'm sure most of you have been ahead of the game for some time now you can watch their video for Hot-N-Fun, which was my favorite from yesterdays set list.

Working Gal

I am sorry I haven't posted in a while, actually a while is an understatement, but this working thing is not that easy. In case you were wondering, or even if you weren't I am going to tell you anyways, I have been interning at MTV this summer. Sorry that's all the information you are going to get (creepers).

But, besides working I haven't really been doing much, just the usual ordinary stuff, playing tennis and listening to an obsessive amount of music. Besides the warm weather, the summer is the best time for new music. Is it just me or was music made for summer, or is it vice-versa?

So lets recap some of my new favorite summer music. The first band is called Sleigh Bells and the lead singer Alexis Krauss is actually a teacher on the side. Um...can you be my teacher, you seem pretty cool to me? Alexis' vocals paired with Derek E. Miller on guitar are totally unique. I don't even know who to compare the them to, which I think says it all. They are totally different, but if this helps M.I.A signed them to her label. Listening to their song Kids (one of my faves) and Tell 'Em just makes me think of being an undercover super hero who is acting like an ordinary person and walking down the city street. Maybe this image comes to my head because when I was listening to their album on repeat I was also reading the Graphic Novel, Y The Last Man. But who cares, they are awesome and their next album cover should totally be them as super heroes.

Another band that I have developed a new love for, although they have been around for a while and I just happen to be behind in the times is Portugal. The Man. I actually went to their free show at Governors Island and was blown away. I immediately proceeded to buy their albums and let me just say this they are better live. They are amazing and for those of you who have been kept in the dark like me you should stop what you are doing now and visit their myspace page.

That's all for now, but I will be back hopefully sooner than later.
