Award Season

It's that time of year again, where people who love movies (i.e me) start getting a little excited and for a split second forget about -20 degree weather outside. Yes, I'm talking about award season, I have already watched the Critiques Choice Awards, Golden Globes and even the People's Choice Awards. This is what I like to call research for the most important award show out there...The Oscars!

Some predictions...

Best Picture: The Social Network
Actor in a Supporting Role: Christian Bale
Actor in a Leading Role: Colin Firth...but I still like Jesse Eisenber's portrayal of Mark Zuckerberg
Actress in a Leading Role: Natalie Portman
Actress in a Supporting Role: Melissa Leo
Directing: David Fincher for the Social Network
Documentary Feature: I'm going with Banksy's Exit Through the Gift Shop

You heard it here first!

Attention Music Lovers

Who doesn't like music? (rhetorical question for you nay sayers). But seriously, music is like having your emotions expressed through someone else, it does all the dirty work for you. Sometimes I actually find myself wondering what the soundtrack to my life would be, and if you must know I think it would include a little Ke$ha (huge guilty pleasure, I mean have you listened to her lyrics), Florence and the Machine and definitely some fun upbeat alternative music like Vampire Weekend, Yelle or Passion Pit. But that's just me.

But whether you agree with my music taste or not, that's not the point. The point is that there is a lot of music out there that people don't know about, which is the glory of the Internet. It's all out there and who knows you may stumble across the next best thing, but you need to know where to look first.

In the spirit of #musicmonday here are a couple of my favorite music sites...

RCRD LBL
Indie Shuffle

and my all time favorite...

The Chuckness

Your welcome!

Street Art

So I am currently watching a documentary titled, Exit Through the Gift Shop, which by the way you can see on Hulu and Netflix. The documentary is about street art, and mentions artists like Banksy, Shepard Fairey (who was responsible for Obama's hope image) and one of my favorites Space Invader.

But overall what intrigues me the most about street art is the idea that the world is your canvas, and you have the ability to leave your mark on the world, literally. Each artist has their own style or icon so that when your walking around a city you can tell who's art it is. For example, Banksy uses stencils that usually entail political messages, Shepard uses stickers to plaster across walls and Space Invader creates his art through rubix cubes and tiles.

So if you find yourself with some time on your hands check out the documentary because for one it was nominated for an Oscar, two it's pretty cool, and three there's kind of a twist to the whole thing...you just need to watch it.

Update

Sorry for being MIA lately but school takes a lot out of you, especially when you are taking an art class and are stuck in the computer lab for 24 hours straight (yes it did happen). However, in the end it was all worth it and because I am so proud of the work I did in the class I decided I would provide you with the two videos I created. The first one is a mashup, see if you can tell who the speakers are (hint they are politicians) and the second was my final project (a.k.a the reason I was stuck in the lab for so long). Hope you enjoy!
