Street Art

So I am currently watching a documentary titled, Exit Through the Gift Shop, which by the way you can see on Hulu and Netflix. The documentary is about street art, and mentions artists like Banksy, Shepard Fairey (who was responsible for Obama's hope image) and one of my favorites Space Invader.

But overall what intrigues me the most about street art is the idea that the world is your canvas, and you have the ability to leave your mark on the world, literally. Each artist has their own style or icon so that when your walking around a city you can tell who's art it is. For example, Banksy uses stencils that usually entail political messages, Shepard uses stickers to plaster across walls and Space Invader creates his art through rubix cubes and tiles.

So if you find yourself with some time on your hands check out the documentary because for one it was nominated for an Oscar, two it's pretty cool, and three there's kind of a twist to the whole thing...you just need to watch it.
